Biofabrication involves the production of biological structures, including tissues and organs, through the combination of biological materials with different manufacturing technologies. The goal is to use the structural elements of manufacturing technologies to structure biological tissues, thereby influencing tissue shape and cell arrangement, which play an important role in complex cell culture systems.
Biofabrication employs bioprinters to print cells and organic support structures, automated systems for the production and culture of biological models, and manufacturing systems to produce bioactive molecules and biologized materials. The ability to structure cell culture models by mimicking physiological tissue structures promotes the development of complex cell models.
